For Brantford patients looking for movement focused care

Brantford has its own chiropractors, so let us be upfront. We are in Westdale, Hamilton, which is a drive from Brantford, mostly along the 403. Patients who make that trip usually do it for a reason, often a specific sports injury, a movement problem that has not resolved closer to home, or a recommendation from someone they trust. If that is you, here is what you can expect.

This is a sports minded town. The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, the trails and paddling along the Grand River, the athletes who come through Laurier Brantford, plus a strong base of physical and manufacturing work. Bodies here get used hard, and the injuries that come with that are squarely in our wheelhouse.

What we help with

Dr. Marnie treats a wide range of musculoskeletal and soft tissue problems in patients of all ages. Reasons patients travel in from the Brantford area include:

  • Sports injuries that have stalled or keep coming back
  • Lower back pain, including pain from heavy or repetitive work
  • Sciatica and pinched nerve symptoms
  • Neck pain, stiffness and related headaches
  • Shoulder injuries, one of Dr. Marnie's areas of interest
  • Movement problems where the cause has been hard to pin down

Why patients travel to MMD

The draw for out of town patients is usually the depth of the assessment. We do not rush. Your time is your time, and Dr. Marnie spends it figuring out what is actually wrong rather than reaching for a quick fix. When the problem is stubborn, that thoroughness is exactly what is needed.

A big part of it is the movement focus. Dr. Marnie is certified in FMS and SFMA, two systems built to assess and classify movement patterns and then direct hands on care and targeted exercise. For an athlete or an active worker whose injury has not made sense so far, looking at how the whole body moves often reveals the piece everyone else missed. We treat the cause, not only the symptom.

Behind that is more than 22 years of practice and a serious athletic care background, including work with national and world level athletes and the medical teams at major races and the 2015 Pan Am Games. If you are coming a distance, you want to know the experience is there. It is.

Making the trip worthwhile

Because Brantford is further out, we try to make each visit count. Your first appointment is a full conversation about your history, your symptoms, your sport and your work, followed by a hands on assessment and, where it helps, a functional movement screen. You leave with a clear understanding of the problem and a plan you can act on, including things you can do at home between visits so the drive is not your only tool.

An x-ray is not needed to be assessed. In specific situations we may recommend imaging to confirm a diagnosis before moving forward.

Getting here from Brantford

We are at 866 King Street West in the Westdale neighbourhood of Hamilton, near McMaster University, easiest reached from Brantford via the 403 into the west end of the city. Parking is available close by. If the distance is a concern, give us a call and we can talk through whether the trip makes sense for what you are dealing with.

Frequently asked questions from Brantford patients

Brantford has chiropractors. Why travel to Hamilton?

Usually for something specific: a sports injury that has not settled, a movement problem that has been hard to diagnose, or a personal recommendation. Dr. Marnie's movement assessment training and athletic care background are what tend to draw patients from further out.

What are FMS and SFMA, and why do they matter?

They are systems for assessing how your body moves, rather than only where it hurts. Classifying your movement patterns helps direct treatment and exercise to the real source of the problem, which is especially useful for injuries that keep returning.

Is the drive worth it for ongoing care?

For some conditions a few well planned visits with home exercises is enough, which keeps the travel manageable. We will be honest with you about what your situation actually needs before you commit to anything.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

No. You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor in Ontario, although your insurance may request one for reimbursement, so check your plan.

Book Your Appointment

You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor in Ontario, so you can book directly. New patients from the Brantford area are welcome, and we will always take the time to understand your history before we start any treatment.
