If you live in Ancaster and you have been putting up with a sore lower back, a stiff neck, or a nagging knee that flares up every time you get active, you do not have to drive far to get it looked at properly. MMD Chiropractic Health Centre sits just down the hill in Westdale, beside the Runners Den, which makes it an easy trip whether you are coming from the Meadowlands, Wilson Street, or one of the quieter pockets up near Sulphur Springs.
Ancaster is a busy place to live. Between school runs, the commute, weekends on the trails around Tiffany Falls and a round of golf when the weather cooperates, your body takes on a lot. Small aches have a way of turning into the kind of pain that changes how you sit, sleep and move. We help you sort out what is actually going on before it gets to that point.
Conditions we commonly treat for Ancaster patients
Dr. Marnie sees a wide range of musculoskeletal and soft tissue problems, in patients from the very young to the very old. Some of the most common reasons Ancaster residents come in:
- Lower back pain and stiffness, including pain that travels into the hip or leg
- Sciatica and pinched nerve symptoms
- Neck pain and tension headaches, often linked to long hours at a desk or behind the wheel
- Shoulder injuries, a particular area of interest for Dr. Marnie
- Sports and weekend warrior injuries, from runners to golfers to hockey parents who overdid it on the ice
- Foot and lower limb pain that may benefit from a custom orthotic
Why Ancaster patients choose MMD
Two things tend to bring people back, and to make them recommend us to a neighbour.
The first is that we do not rush. Your assessment and your treatment get the time they actually need, so you are not pushed out the door before anyone has worked out what is wrong. The second is our approach to the problem itself. We treat the cause of your pain, not just the spot that hurts, which is usually why the relief lasts.
Dr. Marnie Mabee D'Andrea has been practising in this community for more than 22 years. She graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 2002, has treated national and world level athletes, and is certified in FMS and SFMA, a movement screening system used to find the root of a problem and guide hands on care and exercise. If you are the type of Ancaster patient who wants to understand your body and not just mask the pain, you will feel at home here.
What to expect on your first visit
Your first appointment starts with a conversation. We want the full story: when the pain started, what makes it better or worse, your work, your sport, your history. From there Dr. Marnie performs a hands on assessment and, where it helps, a functional movement screen to see how your body is actually moving.
You will leave with a clear explanation of what is going on and a plan that fits your goals, whether that is getting back on the Bruce Trail, sitting through a work day without wincing, or simply sleeping through the night again. An x-ray is not required to be seen, though in certain situations we may recommend imaging to confirm a diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions from Ancaster patients
Do I need a referral to see the chiropractor?
No. You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor in Ontario. Keep in mind that some extended health plans ask for a physician referral before they reimburse, so it is worth checking your specific coverage.
How far is the clinic from Ancaster?
We are in Westdale, on the west side of Hamilton, which is a short drive from most of Ancaster. From the Meadowlands the 403 gets you most of the way quickly.
Can a chiropractor help with my sports injury?
Often, yes. Chiropractors treat injuries to the spine and to the other joints of the body, such as shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. Dr. Marnie has a long background in athletic care and works to rehabilitate you back to your pre-injury level rather than just settle the immediate flare up.
Will treatment hurt?
The adjustment itself usually does not hurt. If you are in a lot of pain, getting into position can be uncomfortable, and soft tissue work can leave a bruised feeling afterward. We explain what to expect before we start anything.
